Pina Colada Recipes
The 10th of July celebrates the national Piña Colada Day. In relation to it, we have found some original Piña Colada recipes to give this traditional summer drink a cool twist and fall in love with it all over again.
Little tip: freeze the pineapple pieces or buy them frozen. By doing this, you can omit the ice from your Pina Colada and increase its creaminess. Otherwise, add ice to the blended mixture as well.
Classic Piña Colada
Before getting to the original mixtures, let’s recap the basics.
Ingredients:
4 oz. spiced or normal rum
4 oz. coconut milk
1/3 c. fresh pineapple chunks, plus more for garnish
splash pineapple juice
1 c. ice
How to make: Add rum, coconut milk, pineapple chunks, and juice to a blender with ice. Blend until smooth. Pour into 2 glasses. Garnish each glass with a pineapple chunk – ready to serve! Simple and delicious.
Piña Colada-Tini
For fans of both Piña Colada and martini, this drink is perfection in its final form.
Ingredients:
2 oz. rum
1 oz. coconut rum
2 oz. pineapple juice
1 oz. cream of coconut
1/2 oz. blue curaçao
Garnish as desired
How to make: Rums, pineapple juice, and cream of coconut should all be combined in an ice-filled cocktail mixer. After a thorough shake, pour into a cold martini glass. Gradually drip the blue curaçao down the side of the glass. It will sink to the bottom and produce a lovely layered appearance.
Piña Colada Sangria
This combination might not sound like it should work, but it does, and pretty well!
Ingredients:
1 750-ml. bottle white wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc
2 c. pineapple juice
1 c. Seltzer
1 c. chopped pineapple
1/2 c. coconut rum
1/4 c. maraschino cherries
How to make: In a pitcher, mix white wine, pineapple juice, seltzer, pineapple, coconut rum, and maraschino cherries. Refrigerate until chilled. Garnish with pineapple and serve.
Strawberry Piña Colada
If you are more of a classic Piña Colada lover but would still like to try and add a new twist to it, this recipe is for you!
Ingredients:
4 oz coconut rum
4 oz light (white) rum
10 oz frozen strawberries
8 oz pineapple juice
8 oz cream of coconut
fresh pineapple wedges, for garnish
How to make: In a blender, combine coconut rum, light rum, and strawberries. Blend to a puree. Transfer to a clean pitcher. Next, clean and wash out the blender. Add pineapple juice, cream of coconut, and crushed ice. Blend until smooth. Divide strawberry rum puree among 4 serving classes. Slowly pour the pineapple coconut mixture into the glass. The red mixture will evenly swirl with the white mixture. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and enjoy!
Triple Layers Piña Colada
Let each layer create a new flavor palate, all in one drink!
Ingredients:
3 oz. rum
1 1/2 c. pineapple
3 tsp. agave syrup
3 tbsp. coconut cream
3 oz. lime juice
1 c. ice
12 strawberries, chopped
2 small peach, chopped
Strawberries, for garnish
How to make: Fill blender with 1/3 of the rum, pineapple, agave nectar, coconut cream, lime juice, and ice. Set aside. Repeat two more times, first adding strawberry, and then peach.
Blend the mixture and pour into the serving glass in layers starting with a base mix, strawberry mix, and peach. Make sure to chill each layer before adding the next.
